On a recent episode of Greg Isenberg's podcast, Tiago Forte said:
Distraction is the 500lb elephant in the room. If you haven't figured that out and mastered that, no productivity tip or technique or framework is going to make any difference whatsoever. It's the stepping stone to even being able to even have the space to think about your productivity.
How often do you work on cultivating concentration? I've come across a lot of people who are really into productivity and also have short attention spans, hyper-connected and constantly stimulated by novelty (the latest note-taking app, for example). They seem to lean too far into productivity at the expense of concentration.
I noticed this about myself a couple years ago so started to think more about it and work on it, reducing distractions and 'shallow' work in favour of longer stretches of uninterrupted work. Interesting to hear Tiago's comments now, as he's one of the guys that got me into productivity some years ago.
